Grapple

A hook you shoot at a grapple point, then swing on the rope, on maps built for it.

How it works#

  • Shoot: aim at a grapple point within range and press the grapple key. The hook attaches; the rope keeps its length.
  • Swing: you swing like a pendulum. Air strafing still works on the rope.
  • Release: let go of the key and fly on with your speed.
  • Limit: one grapple per jump (or a short cooldown, set by the map).
  • A blocked line between you and the hook releases the rope. It never wraps around corners.

Feel and skill#

  • The swing turns falling speed into horizontal speed, the same idea as a drop-in.
  • The skill is the release: let go at the bottom of the arc for the most speed, a bit later for height.

In maps#

  • Grapple points are marked (a ring, a light), so routes are readable and speedrun lines can be designed.
  • With ice: swing into a drop-in, release onto an icy slope.
  • With walljumps: grapple, release, walljump off the wall you swung toward.
